The Requirements for Quebec Immigrant Investor Program Become Stricter
The Quebec Immigrant Investor program founded in 1986 is one of the most significant investment programs in Canada. The program being extended will receive up to 1900 new applications during the period September 10, 2018 through August 31, 2019. A maximum of 1,235 applications will be accepted from China.
Individuals wishing to take advantage of Quebec’s investment program are required to possess at least two years of management or business experience in the last 5 years preceding the application as well as reside in Quebec. Effective August 02, 2018, applicants should comply with stricter eligibility requirements. In fact, the qualifying net worth amount has increased to $2 million, up from $1.6 million. The minimum investment amount has also been raised to $1.2 million (to be returned 5 years after the investment if the investors desire so) from $800,000. However, applicants may choose to pay a non-refundable amount of $350,000 to a government-approved financial institution which will make an investment with the government on the applicant’s behalf.
Please note after the federal government discontinued its version in 2014, the Quebec Immigrant Investor program become Canada’s significant landscape of business immigration. However, with the increase in the investment amount as well as the net worth, it is less likely that foreign investors would be attracted to the program.
